Network
Performance Troubleshooting for a Major Utility
PSC team members were selected
to help a major utility isolate network performance problems
with their network. The PSC team completed a network assessment
and utilized automated tools to help isolate the performance
problems. The team outlined short-term fixes and long-term
recommendations to resolve the performance problems. The
team recommended that the WAN/LAN architecture be reengineered.
The team was involved in supporting the customer through
their architectural reengineering effort. The customer team
implemented the recommendations and the network is now performing
quite well.
Financial Services Infrastructure Server Upgrade
PSC team members have been actively
involved in helping a Fortune 100 financial services company
upgrade their server infrastructure. The infrastructure
consisted of over 3000 users and over 90 servers across
their enterprise.
Infrastructure Support for a Farm Equipment Manufacturer
PSC helped a farm equipment manufacturer
expedite a switch to a new information technology infrastructure
based on Microsoft technologies. The manufacturer wanted
assistance in migrating Windows 2000, Active Directory,
.NET, and MS SQL Server.
PSC team members completed an
assessment keyed around the conversion to Windows 2000.
The client also requested and received from PSC architecture
and design assistance. Additionally, PSC mentoring ensured
that the manufacturers in-house support staff could
provide adequate support for the manufacturers many
projects.
Network Performance Troubleshooting (Automobile Component
Manufacturer)
PSC team members, at the request
of an automobile components manufacturer, studied the manufacturers
sluggish network performance then isolated the underlying
root causes. PSC, in ferreting out the problems, completed
a network assessment. Judicious use of automated tools then
further helped pinpoint the trouble spots.
PSCs assistance extended
to listing short-term interim fixes in addition to outlining
long-term recommendations for resolution of the network
problems. Also identified were security vulnerabilities
within the network; the PSC team then recommended implementation
of a new firewall system to harden the network and protect
critical business applications.
Under PSCs guidance, the
clients staff proceeded with the recommended infrastructure
changes. The implementation succeeded and the network functions
well.
Upgrade Server Infrastructure for Security Compliance for
Bank
A Fortune 500 banking company
faced the necessity of upgrading their server infrastructure
in order to comply with newly enacted federal mandates requiring
enhanced security. The banking company hired PSC to manage
the upgrade.
PSCs team smoothly directed this transition to newer
tightened standardized security settings a transition
affecting 60 servers within the banking companys entire
organization. Included in the infrastructure security upgrade
were major modifications to security settings. The security
settings encompassed, among other items, hardening, auditing,
authentication, and authorization. PSC also installed patches
critical to other security systems.
Financial Services Messaging Infrastructure Migration
A Fortune 100 financial services
company engaged PSC to guide the design of a new messaging
system which spanned the companys enterprise. The
messaging system architecture had to support an infrastructure
of over 6000 users and 50 server-distributed post office
boxes. Messaging, by virtue of being critical to the companys
day-to-day operations, had to be reliable, available, and
easy to service; it also had to be centralized and cost-effective.
An added stipulation was that the migration had to be automated.
PSC team members worked with
this client to quantify the messaging system requirements,
design a system, and develop a plan to make operational
the resulting new system. In doing so, PSC consultants also
created a client automation process, server automation process,
and messaging conversion automation process.
Two highly available clustered
servers handling the now-centralized post office boxes became
the core of the new messaging system. The manner in which
migration to the new system occurred was also significant
because of the reduction in implementation costs and the
elimination of physical touches to swap out each client
machine.
